CONVERSATION PROJECT

For this project, the final assignment in WRD 540 - Teaching Writing, I was to select a topic or area of interest in composition studies related to teaching writing. First, I was tasked with developing an annotated bibliography on my chosen topic in order to situate myself in the field. Next, I created a writing assignment called the "Conversation Project" with scaffolded reading and writing activities that draw from the resources in my annotated bibliography. Finally, I submitted a project rationale describing how the assignment reflects the research both in my annotated bibliography and in previous readings from the course.

For this project, I decided to research the connections between writing and composition studies and Disability Studies. I was especially interested in how writing education handles difference and disability, the embodied nature of writing, and how writing education can be improved for the benefit of all students, regardless of ability. This project reflects my ability to apply current principles of writing pedagogy to the production and analysis of pedagogical materials, as I was able to translate what I learned from my research into a fully-formed writing assignment.
